Tourist Attractions

  • Cahuita Playa Blanca
  • Mike on a Zipline

Amapola BnB is a great take off point for visiting many attractions unique to Costa Rica. The coast with its pristine beaches and azure colored ocean is just an hour away as is the city of Limon, the principal port of Costa Rica. The Sloth Sanctuary can be found along that coast. A few minutes from our home flows the great Pacuare River. There visitors can enjoy the thrill of White Water Rafting.

Somewhat more distant are Tortuguero Sea Turtle Reserve and Arenal Volcano. They are places of adventure and fascination.

The National Park Braulio Carrillo, one of the largest natural reserves in the country, is an hour away. There visitors can enjoy Canopy Rides (zip lines), hikes and guided tours. A tram takes them trough dark mysterious forests hundreds of years old. At times we feel we live in an aviary.

The tropical forest is a feast for birdwatchers: at the time of this writing we are enjoying a raucous convention of the great Macaws in nearby trees. Entymologists will find much to study here. Here we don't have roosters waking us up at the crack of dawn but Congos, monkeys, who begin their soaring choruses at first light.

Earth University, just past Siquirres, is a centre of studies and research in sustainable agricultural methods and products. This beautiful architectural complex is a place to visit and just enjoy for walks. EU is one of the top Universities of its kind.

Moltes gràcies, Carmen i Mike!"

"All I can say is…wow. Even after we left AmapolaBnB, I kept thinking about it. I'm so glad I got the chance to stay here. Siquirres is not exactly a destination like La Fortuna or Manuel Antonio, however, this is a PERFECT location if you plan to whitewater raft the legendary Pacuare River. Mike is located about 20 minutes from the Exploradores Outfitters location. It makes for a super convenient stay.

Their home was spectacular and exceeded my expectation. The price was great. We even had the opportunity to have dinner with Mike. We sat out on his patio and shared wine and conversation while watching a lightning show over the ocean. It's a memory we will never forget. Lastly, we woke up to a fabulous breakfast of french toast, Costa Rican coffee and fresh fruit, again on Carmen and Mike's awesome patio. We did not want to leave.

The bed was super comfortable and very private. The home was the best AirBnB on our trip, super hot shower, great bathroom, private sitting area to watch the sunrise. I can't say enough good things about Mike's place. It's a little distance from the main road (maybe 12/15 minutes) but it's SO worth it. SO quiet and what AirBnB is all about. 2 big thumbs up. Thanks Mike!

The following were the words of a wonderful young couple from Puerto Rico. Both are psychologists so were super easy to share with.

"Thank you hosting us. Every moment was memorable. We felt very comfortable with our treatment and with all the attention that we enjoyed. The room was very clean, the sheets lovely, and the water hot. You were so friendly and flexible. Breakfast of eggs, fruit, coffee and juice was delicious. As well we enjoyed good conversations. "Carmen and Mike are gracious and welcoming hosts. We stayed one night at their separate guesthouse and enjoyed the beautiful views and their company. After leaving and continuing to figure out our travel itinerary, their location made sense for us to come back three nights later. We were welcomed back and enjoyed the community pool and waterfall. We didn't have time to utilize the horseback riding. After another great night and comfortable accommodations, we hated to say good bye. They helped us plan activities and locations to continue our trip.

Carmen and Mike are the kind of hosts that if you want privacy they will respect it or if you want to share some cocktails, company and great views, that works too! Very laid back hosts. Their three dogs are welcoming and friendly too. We would definitely come back to visit our new friends."
